Fantastic Butts And Where To Find Them

Hello, and welcome to episode 353 of The Fantasticast. Each week, Steve Lacey and Andy Leyland guide you through every issue, guest-appearance and cameo of The Fantastic Four.

This week, we're off to Yancy Street for a romantic reunion, a change in living arrangements, and a set of suspicious removal men who really chose the wrong moment to go undercover. With the Thing sitting on the back of a removals van, and a long-time foe who just might be the mystery teamer-upper for this issue, this issue proves that moving home ain't quite as Fantastic as it sounds...

Mark Gruenwald, Ralph Macchio, Mike Nasser, Gene Day, George Roussos, John Costanza, Jim Salicrup, Jim Shooter, George Perez, and Joe Sinnott present Marvel Two-in-One #70 - A Moving Experience. The Fantasticast Episode 347: Fantastic Four Annual #15 - Time for the Prime Ten

The Fantasticast Episode 347

Stolen From Rimmerworld

Hello, and welcome to episode 347 of The Fantasticast. Each week, Steve Lacey and Andy Leyland guide you through every issue, guest-appearance and cameo of The Fantastic Four.

This week, we stray once again into Annual territory. Reed Richards and Captain Marvel find themselves fighting side-by-side against (allegedly) the cream of the Skrull forces as an experiment to make toy cars move by themselves (or something) brings the Kree-Skrull War to Earth. Meanwhile, in Latveria, Zorba discovers that it ain't so great to be the King, as the journey to Doctor Doom's return to the throne begins.

Doug Moench, George Perez, Chic Stone, Jon D'Agostino, Mike Esposito, Ben Sean, George Roussos, Tom Sutton, Jim Novak, Jim Salicrup, and Jim Shooter present Fantastic Four Annual #15 - Time for the Prime Ten. Featuring extra-terrestial ear-waggling, a look at how the MCU treats (or doesn't treat) the average person-on-the-street, an examination of Reed's parenting skills, and the deep, deep eyes of Mar-Vell... oooh...

The Fantasticast Episode 340: Marvel Two-in-One #65 - Serpents From The Sea

Superfluous Triton

Hello, and welcome to episode 340 of The Fantasticast. Each week, Steve Lacey and Andy Leyland guide you through every issue, guest-appearance and cameo of The Fantastic Four.

This week, we tackle the middle chapter of the Serpent Crown Affair. The Serpent Soci- uh, Squad are here to explain everything, destroy and oil rig, go treasure hunting, and exchange underwater punches with The Thing, Stingray, and special guest star Triton of the Inhumans, who definitely has a role to play in this issue, oh yes.

Mark Gruenwald, Ralph Macchio, George Perez, Gene Day, Carl Gafford, John Costanza, Jim Salicrup, Bob Budiansky, and Jim Shooter present Marvel Two-in-One #65 - Serpents From The Sea, in which your hosts definitely know who each member of the Serpent Soci- uh, Squad is, and Sidewinder (we think) delivers the most gratuitous exposition seen in Marvel Comics to date. And, as a bonus, we also dive into one entire panel of the Dark Phoenix Saga, as we take an exceedingly-brief look at Uncanny X-Men #135.

The Fantasticast Episode 337: Marvel Two-in-One #64 - The Serpent Crown Affair Part 1 - From the Depths

The Fantasticast Episode 337

Wind-Generated Oil Rigs

Hello, and welcome to episode 337 of The Fantasticast. Each week, Steve Lacey and Andy Leyland guide you through every issue, guest-appearance and cameo of The Fantastic Four.

We're at the start of another big storyline for Marvel Two-in-One, as abandoned plotlines from Namor's solo title drive the adventures of Benjamin "The Thing" Grimm and Walter "Stingray" Newall. A jaunt to visit the Inhumans turns into a rescue mission at a suspiciously-acting oil rig, and there are yet larger forces at work...

Mark Gruenwald, Ralph Maccio, George Perez, Gene Day, Carl Gafford, Ben Sean, John Costanza, Jim Salicrup, and Jim Shooter present Marvel Two-in-One #64, the first part of the classic The Serpent Crown Affair. As well as this, we also take a brief look at the Tom DeFalco and Steve Ditko-produced Machine Man #15, in which wheels are definitely better than legs.

The Fantasticast Episode 335

Everybody Hates Starhawk

Hello, and welcome to episode 335 of The Fantasticast. Each week, Steve Lacey and Andy Leyland guide you through every issue, guest-appearance and cameo of The Fantastic Four.

This week, we're returning to outer space to hunt down those who have stolen Counter-Earth, discover Adam Warlock's body, and get someone laid. Behold as plotlines from comics nothing to do with the Fantastic Four get explained and retconned while the star of this book stands around and listens.

Mark Gruenwald, Jerry Bingham, Gene Day, Roger Slifer, Joe Rosen, Bob Budiansky, Jim Salicrup, Jim Shooter, George Perez, and Terry Austin present Marvel Two-in-One #63, in which a Warlock is not suffered to live. In addition, we pay a final visit to the Microverse (for now) as the Fantastic Four and the Micronauts team up to survive capture by the Psycho-Man, in The Micronauts #17.

The Fantasticast Episode 333: Marvel Two-in-One #62 - The Taking Of Counter-Earth

The Fantasticast Episode 333

It's Spankin' Time

Hello, and welcome to episode 333 of The Fantasticast. Each week, Steve Lacey and Andy Leyland guide you through every issue, guest-appearance and cameo of The Fantastic Four.

This week we're back in the realms of Marvel Two-in-One, as an extended cast (including Starhawk, Moondragon, Her, and Alicia Masters) make their way to Counter-Earth. Well, they would do, if some bastards hadn't towed the bloody thing away, forcing them to resurrect the High Evolutionary to work out where it's gone. All this for a shag...

Mark Gruenwald, Jerry Bingham, Gene Day, George Roussos, Joe Rosen, Jim Salicrup, Jim Shooter, George Perez, and Joe Sinnott present Marvel Two-in-One #62 - The Taking Of Counter-Earth, in which Counter-Earth is taken, Starhawk reveals his secret power, and Moondragon receives some corporal punishment. Yes, it's time for us to look at a spanking! As well as this, we linger in the Microverse for Micronauts #16, and head into the multiverse for a brief look at What If? #20.

The Fantasticast Episode 331: Marvel Two-in-One #61 - The Coming Of Her

The Fantasticast Episode 331

Er... Yeah... Fnarr?

Hello, and welcome to episode 331 of The Fantasticast. Each week, Steve Lacey and Andy Leyland guide you through every issue, guest-appearance and cameo of The Fantastic Four.

This week, we're doing our best not to snigger in a smutty manner at the title of Marvel Two-in-One #61. Because there's nothing to laugh at, at all, alright? Anyway, we start another cosmic epic for Ben Grimm, as he gets mixed up with Her, Moondragon, Starhawk, and Alicia Masters. Some of these characters are headed out into space, and it's not necessarily the ones that you might be thinking of...

Mark Gruenwald, Jerry Bingham, Gene Day, Ben Sean, Joe Rosen, Jim Salicrup, George Perez, and Terry Austin present Marvel Two-in-One #61 - The Coming Of Her. Featuring some things that I made notes about while editing the podcast, but I left those notes at home in Gent, and I'm over 500km away, so those notes might just as well have not been taken. Hmm.

The Fantasticast Episode 329

Laptop Or Cigar Box?

Hello, and welcome to episode 329 of The Fantasticast. Each week, Steve Lacey and Andy Leyland guide you through every issue, guest-appearance and cameo of The Fantastic Four.

How many issues of downtime do you need following one of the greatest stories of the late-1970s? We're glad the answer is 'more than one', as it allows to us to enjoy an evening in the company of Ben Grimm, Alicia Masters, The Thing's purple-and-green hat, and... waitaminnit! That's not a hat! That's The Impossible Man!

Ralph Macchio, Mark Gruenwald, George Perez, Gene Day, Roger Slifer, John Costanza, Roger Stern, Bob Budiansky, and Joe Rubinstein present (and, for some of them, star in) Marvel Two-in-One #60, featuring the return of The Impossible Man, three unlikely villains, and an poorly-timed spot of life drawing. In addition, we revisit Spider-Man's first encounter with the Fantastic Four as to take a peak at What If? #19, and prepare for future episodes in the Microverse with The Micronauts #14.

The Fantasticast Episode 325: Marvel Two-in-One #58 - To The Nth Power

The Fantasticast Episode 325

The Age Of The Aquarian

Hello, and welcome to episode 325 of The Fantasticast. Each week, Steve Lacey and Andy Leyland guide you through every issue, guest-appearance and cameo of The Fantastic Four.

The finale to both the Project Pegasus Saga and our coverage of books cover-dated in the 1970s is finally here. Many questions will now be answered. What is Bill Foster really doing at Project Pegasus? Why is Wundarr so important to the story? What exactly was Dr Lightner up to? Why were so many villains being kept in the basement? Just how long did this entire saga actually last?

Mark Gruenwald, Ralph Macchio, George Perez, Gene Day, Carl Gafford, John Costanza, Roger Stern, Jim Shooter, and Terry Austin present Marvel Two-in-One #58 - To The Nth Power. Can this issue really put The Thing against a second dimensionally-powered villain whose body functions as a gateway to another realm in as many issues? Well... yes... but this one is much better! Join us, as we bit farewell to the 1970s.

The Fantasticast Episode 322

But He Really Illustrates

Hello, and welcome to episode 322 of The Fantasticast. Each week, Steve Lacey and Andy Leyland guide you through every issue, guest-appearance and cameo of The Fantastic Four.

The Fantasticast goes giant-sized once again, as Steve and Andy get to grips with Fantastic Four Annual #14. Nicholas Scratch and Salem's Seven are back, the Fantastic Four are out of action, and only Franklin Richards and Agatha Harkness can stop them. It's the team-up you never knew you wanted!

Marv Wolfman, George Perez, Pablo Marcos, Carl Gafford, Jim Novak, Jim Shooter, and Joe Sinnott present Fantastic Four Annual #1 - Cats-Paw. Warning: This annual contains extraneous Sandman, a happy town, lots of people dying quite horribly if you think about it for more than a few moments, gratuitous cameos, a confuzzling ceremony, and a last triumph from a writer about to jump ship.

Mark Gruenwald, Ralph Macchio, George Perez, Gene Day, Bob Sharen, John Costanza, Roger Stern, Al Milgrom, and Jim Shooter present Marvel Two-in-One #57. Five Wrestlers In Search Of A Whatchamacallit

Hello, and welcome to episode 318 of The Fantasticast. Each week, Steve Lacey and Andy Leyland guide you through every issue, guest-appearance and cameo of The Fantastic Four.

Grab yer spandex and yer definitely-not-choreographed-at-all moves - it's time to bring some wrasslin' to the Pegasus Project! Thundra, blackmailed by a mysterious man with a cigar, leads the Grapplers into the tunnels of everyone's favourite energy research complex, and only Black Goliath, Quasar, and The Thing stand in their way!

Mark Gruenwald, Ralph Macchio, George Perez, Gene Day, Bob Sharen, Irv Watanabe, Roger Stern, Jim Salicrup, Jim Shooter, John Byrne, and Terry Austin present Marvel Two-in-One #56 - The Deadlier Of The Species! Featuring a maudlin Thundra, a confusing timejump, and the true debut of Screaming Mimi/Songbird. And, as a bonus, we catch up with a sickly Mr Fantastic as he helps Spider-Man identify the formula for an anti-matter bomb. Uh, Reed, you know that a formula alone doesn't make a bomb, right?

This week, we're looking to team a veteran, rock-based super-hero with an up-and-coming vigilante who definitely isn't Batman in a white costume, oh no, not at all. Yes, Moon Knight gets to feature in Marvel Two-in-One this week, as he and Ben Grimm go up against future Hawkeye villain Crossfire!

Steven Grant, Jim Craig, Pablo Marcos, Ben Sean, Gaspar Saladino, Roger Stern, Jim Salicrup, Jim Shooter, George Perez, and Joe Sinnott present Marvel Two-in-One #52. The Fantasticast Episode 308: Marvel Two-in-One #51 - Full House, Dragons High

The Fantasticast Episode 308

Face Front

Hello, and welcome to episode 308 of The Fantasticast. Each week, Steve Lacey and Andy Leyland guide you through every issue, guest-appearance and cameo of The Fantastic Four.

To be very blunt, Marvel Two-in-One #51 is a Very Good Comic. Guest writer Peter Gillis crafts a story where The Thing has to team up with Nick Fury and some newer Avengers to defend the SHIELD Helicarrier, and on the strength of the writing, this would be a pretty good comic. But then there's the guest art from Frank Miller, at a very early stage in his career, and he takes the issue to an entirely new level.

Peter Gillis, Frank Miller, Bob McLeod, Glynis Wein, Tom Orzechowski, Roger Stern, Jim Shooter, and George Perez present Marvel Two-in-One #51, with Ms Marvel, The Beast, Wonder Man, Nick Fury, a fantastic red alert, and an unstable Fantasticar. And on top of this, we also spend time with Godzilla, King Of The Monsters #22, where it turns out that dumping Godzilla through a time machine wasn't the best idea in the world, and Ben Grimm eats Doctor Doom's time platform.

But before all of that, we sit down to give our very immediate thoughts on the passing of Fantastic Four co-creator and Marvel figurehead Stan Lee. Recorded within half an hour of the news of his passing breaking, we discuss our personal experiences meeting Stan, and his impact on us.

The Fantasticast Episode 306

Simon Bisley On An Etch-a-Sketch

Hello, and welcome to episode 306 of The Fantasticast. Each week, Steve Lacey and Andy Leyland guide you through every issue, guest-appearance and cameo of The Fantastic Four.

This week, we're jumping back to late January, 2012, to find out what our hosts got up to between episodes 2 and 3 of the Fantasicast. <checks notes> This week, we're reading Marvel Two-in-One #50, in which John Byrne takes Ben Grimm back to his past to try and avert his rocky-skinned fate. It's a time-travel classic that sees the Thing battle the Thing for... uh... look, it's an anniversary issue, does there need to be much more of a plot?

Joining us to discuss the first book written and drawn by John Byrne is writer and artist David Wynne. You may have seen his artwork for podcasts including Jay and Miles X-Plain The X-Men or Joshua and Jamie Do Daredevil. Not wanting to miss out on this, Steve and Andy Fan-'splain The FF asked Dave to recreate the cover to the comic, and once we'd worked out who had originally drawn the cover, it came out of a treat. It's our first cover recreation, and we're as pleased as a couple of podcasters talking about a comic they really like with a guest host they enjoy chatting with who has also done a great job with creating some artwork for the episode.

The Fantasticast Episode 286

Non-Jumping Jumpers

Hello, and welcome to episode 286 of The Fantasticast. Each week, Steve Lacey and Andy Leyland guide you through every issue, guest-appearance and cameo of The Fantastic Four.

Following a successful series of birthdays, Steve and Andy return to Marvel Two-in-One for a series of firsts. The first appearance of Project Pegasus, the first script from new regular writer Ralph Macchio (not that one), the first appearance of Jude The Entropic Man, and the first credit for assistant editor Jim Salicrup. The Fantasticast Episode 285: Fantastic Four #197 - The Riotous Return Of The Red Ghost

Do You Know Who The F--k I Am?

Hello, and welcome to episode 285 of The Fantasticast. Each week, Steve Lacey and Andy Leyland guide you through every issue, guest-appearance and cameo of The Fantastic Four.

As we all know, the best way to celebrate that landmark 197th issue (excluding annuals and Giant-Size issues) is to return to the beginning of a title, but for only of the cast of characters, and only to restore his missing powers, and only if the co-host's least favourite recurring villain makes an appearance.

Marv Wolfman, Keith Pollard, Joe Sinnott, Barry Grossman, John Costanza, and Jim Shooter present Fantastic Four #197, which takes Reed to outer space, returns the Red Ghost, stars Rik Mayall as Doctor Doom, decides that Doom would be a Morrissey fan, racism and all, and exclaims, By Jon Bogdanove's Beard!

There's also a song, at 12 minutes into the episode, that has an awful lot of unbleeped swearing in it. But it's not as bad as the singing. Sorry about that... You can hear the original version of the parody at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rVmVVkbx3jE

Hello, and welcome to episode 283 of The Fantasticast. Each week, Steve Lacey and Andy Leyland guide you through every issue, guest-appearance and cameo of The Fantastic Four.

This week, we're off for a proper, slap-up Hollywood dinner, complete with ghostly father, soup that fights back, and absolutely no children. The Psycho Man('s armour) is back, the Invincible Man is also back, Reed's having nightmares, and Ben's having bouillabasse.

Marv Wolfman, Keith Pollard, Pablo Marcos, Glynis Wein, Joe Rosen, and Jim Shooter present Fantastic Four #196, in which a babysitter is despatched, stars are spotted, Johnny Storm definitely isn't Luke Hamill or David Cassidy, and nobody notices a fight in a restaurant. Just your average issue of the Fantastic Four, then.

The Fantasticast is support by Stitcher Premium, home of Wolverine: The Long Night, launching March 12th. The Fantasticast Episode 279

Gassy Head

Hello, and welcome to episode 279 of The Fantasticast. Each week, Steve Lacey and Andy Leyland guide you through every issue, guest-appearance and cameo of The Fantastic Four.

This week, we return to the scene of the crime (crash), as Fantastic Four #194 sees Alicia, the US Army, and a right dick of a fireman on the trail fo Ben Grimm, who has gone missing in the aftermath of a solar shuttle crash. Will he get caught up in Diablo and Darkoth's plot against Doctor Doom? Let's hope so...

Len Wein, Keith Pollard, Bill Mantlo, Dave Hunt, George Roussos, Annette Kawecki, and Marv Wolfman present Fantastic Four #194 - Vengeance Is Mine. It's a tale of unlikely geographic coincidences, intense melodrama, an unlikely way of pronouncing the word 'EXPLODE', and previous little of any members of the team who aren't primarily comprised of rocks...
